INFORMATION
Climate
When temperatures at home hover in the 30's and the days
are short and dreary, Costa Rica boasts 12 hours of sunlight
and 75-82 degree temperatures. Due to the wide variations
in the climate zones (Costa Rica has 10!), daily temperatures
and rainfall will vary with the elevation and location.
Most regions, however, do have a rainy or “green”
season from May to October and a dry season from November
to April.Rafting Info
Critters
An added bonus to your trip are the brilliantly colored
macaws which swoop overhead as the howler monkeys chatter
in the trees. The exceptionally sharp trekker might see
a jaguar or a sloth languidly stretched out on a branch
in the forest. Don't forget to bring a bird book—Costa
Rica has twice the number of species of birds as the United
States.
The
Land
With soaring mountains dropping away to lush tropical rainforests,
Costa Rica is a land of extremes. Twelve-thousand foot volcanic
mountains tower over valleys of unspoiled beauty. All this
diversity makes diminutive Costa Rica a micro-continent
unlike any other place on earth.
The
People
Three million people live in Costa Rica with almost one
third in San Jose and its surrounding area. “Ticos”—as
the friendly warm-hearted people are called—welcome
travelers with genuine openness. Most visitors return home
with glowing accounts of their fabled hospitality and cordiality.
Spanish is the national language, but many Ticos speak at
least some English. This peaceful country-- in which electricity
is found in even the smallest villages-- boasts of having
more teachers than policemen.
