Which
class is right for you?
Our
goal is to increase your paddling skills in a challenging
environment while having fun. It's important that you choose
a clinic that is right for your current skill level. Taking
a clinic that is beyond your abilities may make it too challenging
and could possibly hold back the rest of the group. If you
have any questions about which clinic is appropriate for
you, please call us and we'll be happy to help steer you
toward the right level. |
Number
of participants
We require a minimum number of participants for each clinic.
If you prefer full flexibility, you may want to consider
a private clinic. If our minimum is not met, we will notify
you and you will have the option of moving to another clinic
date or canceling your reservation and receiving a full
refund. |
Beginning
Clinic
Duration: 2½ days
Minimum Age: 10 years
Difficulty: Class I-III
Price: $325 |
Our
beginning clinic is designed for those who have never been
in a kayak before or have paddled around a bit, but without
the knowledge of basic techniques.
We will start with Friday evening's classroom instruction
where you will be introduced to the basic equipment and
river terminology necessary to navigate the weekend. |
|
Saturday begins with a lake session where you will learn
basic paddling skills such as the wet exit, Eskimo rescue,
introduction to the Eskimo roll, forward strokes, sweep
strokes and other power and turning strokes. While we
break for lunch you'll have a chance to rest and ask questions.
After lunch, we'll load up and head to an easy moving
section of a nearby river to put those strokes into action!
Here you will learn the fine art of balance and work on
eddy turns, peel-outs, ferries and other techniques needed
to become a safe and efficient kayaker.
|
After a review of the previous day's activities, we'll pack
up Sunday and head for another nearby river to continue
refining safety and river reading skills, along with paddling
techniques. Clinics usually conclude around 4:30 PM. |
